Getting Started with Emerald

This guide will show you how to edit videos using Emerald. If you're already familiar with video editing platforms, you'll find that a lot of this works the way you'd expect, but you might still pick up some nice tips along the way!

Getting Started

Emerald is a video editing platform that works with you to handle the boring parts of video editing, so you can focus on staying creative.

Emerald works best when you assign it tasks or specify what you want. It knows plenty of ways to make a "good video," but it can't read minds. If you have something specific in mind for your creative vision, the more detail you can provide in your prompt, the better.

To start editing with Emerald, head to the main screen. You'll see the sidebar, where you can select a past project, start a new one, update your brand kit, or change your settings. On the right, you'll see the main prompt bar. Upload your media, type what kind of video you want to see, and click send to get started. Emerald may take a minute to process uploaded footage.

You can upload lots of different kinds of media, including video files, images, sound files, and more. We'll add even more support over time. Your media is saved to your project, so you can come back to it later and even edit from a different location or on your phone.

You can also make a new project by clicking the New Project button on the sidebar. This will drop you straight into the editor, if you want to get started manually.

Example Prompts

To get you started, here are a few example prompts that we've found helpful to ask Emerald to do:

Make me a highlight reel of my kicking clips for Instagram. Time it to the beat of Music_03.mp3, and make sure I'm in frame. Vertical short format!

Find the take where I stutter the least and am looking at the camera. If there aren't any, mix the best takes together and hide the cut with b-roll footage.

Watch this gaming recording for the parts where I fight the bosses. Edit out the pauses and boring parts. A while into the video, I got lost for a few minutes, cut that part out and resume when I get back on track. Keep it fast paced, lots of cuts and transitions, and add super high-energy captions for a YouTube video. Keep it over 8 minutes, so the video's monetizable.

The Editor

In the editor, you can continue to edit in a chat conversation with Emerald, or you can click the Timeline button to switch over to a traditional video editing environment. This environment may be familiar if you've edited videos before; we've tried to keep things recognizable.

If you haven't, here's the rundown:

Your media library is on the left. You can drag your videos, audio, or any other media down onto the timeline, which is a way of seeing which media plays at which time. You can have multiple tracks, letting you mix visual elements or layer audio tracks. Try it out by dragging a video around and seeing what it does.

Also selectable in the editor are lots of other features, like text, transitions, and visual effects. Play around with them, or ask Emerald to! Emerald is able to do almost anything a person can do with professional video editing tools, and we're adding more and more functionality by the day. Exporting Your Video

Once your video looks the way you want it, you can export it right from the editor, or just ask Emerald to handle it for you.

It's also super easy to export for different platforms. Just ask Emerald to format the video for YouTube, TikTok, or any other platform, and it'll automatically create versions for each.
